The Nigeria national team confirmed that the Galatasaray forward remains unavailable after his recovery took longer than initially expected.
Osimhen was initially included in head coach Éric Chelle’s 24-man squad after the technical crew and Galatasaray hoped he would recover in time for the international window.
However, his continued absence from Galatasaray’s league clash against Trabzonspor further confirmed that he would not be fit to join the Super Eagles for the qualifiers.
The 27-year-old sustained the injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over Istanbul Başakşehir on September 4. He scored in the match before being substituted in the 33rd minute.
Galatasaray subsequently confirmed that Osimhen suffered a strain to his right adductor muscle group, which has kept him out of the club’s recent fixtures.
Nigeria will face Madagascar at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on September 25 before travelling to Bissau to take on Guinea-Bissau on September 29.
Despite Osimhen’s absence, Chelle has several attacking options available, including Ademola Lookman, Moses Simon, Akor Adams, Samuel Chukwueze, Tolu Arokodare, George Ilenikhena and Moses Usor.
